As the first games of the 2015 college lacrosse season kicked off this past weekend, all lacrosse enthusiasts were glued to their computers watching games on the livestream and getting everyone back into the flow of what should prove to be another exciting and parody-filled year of NCAA lacrosse. The one constant from this weekend, picking up right where we left off, is our western lacrosse players from the Adrenaline family continuing to fill up rosters across the country and making meaningful impacts week in and week out.

Week 1 saw several great individual performances and some highly competitive games. The reigning champs, Duke Blue Devils, showed a lot of grit in battling out two hard fought victories, playing two games in less than 24 hours. Freshman Jake Seau (Adrln All American, West Coast Starz, Tropics) was a force in on the Duke midfield logging considerable minutes along with teammate Chad Cohan (West Coast Starz, Adrln All American) who started at attack and had a huge goal in the win over Air Force. For Air Force, the Falcons got valuable two way play out of Midi Matt Duenes (West Coast Starz) and freshman attackman Andrew Tien (Tropics, Adrln All American, West Coast Starz) saw his first collegiate action.

Marquette was able to pull a very big upset over the heavily favored Lehigh Mountain Hawks, and the come from behind victory was sparked by the Face-off play of Owen Weselak (Tropics, West Coast Starz, Adrln All American) (9-15 FO), who won the final three consecutive draws en route to a 10-9 victory.

Michigan notched their first victory of the season over Bellarmine. Mike Schlosser (Adrln All American, Tropics) lead all scorers with (4,1), while Brendan Gaughan (West Coast Starz, Adrln All American) (0,1) and Jack Perkins (West Coast Starz, Adrln All American, Tropics) (2, 1) got in the scoring column. Defender Kevin Fahey (Adrln All American, Tropics) did a great job from his starting defense position.

Army jumped out to a 2-0 start on the year and have been paced by the stellar play of attackman Cole Johnson (Adrln All American, West Coast Starz) who currently leads the team in scoring with (7,1). His performance earned him the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award. Ted Glesener also chipped in and added a goal toward victory.

Boston University avenged a season opening loss to Mercer last season with a thumping of Mercer in the 2015 opener. Hayden Ruiz (Adrln All American, West Coast Starz, Tropics) was immense with (2, 1) and several hockey assists and great plays in the midfield.

Virginia won arguably the most exciting game of the weekend, with a 13-12 victory over Loyola. Matt Emery (Adrln All American) picked a perfect time for his first collegiate goal and LSM Tanner Ottenbreit (Adrln All American) was wreaking havoc in the defensive end all game long.

Colgate Red Raiders made a big statement with a big upset win over a strong Bryant team this wknd. Anthony Abadessa (Adrln All American, West Coast Starz, Tropics) scored his first collegiate goal of his career in his first career start and Jack Stebbins (Adrln All American, Tropics) asserted his big frame in the midfield with (2,0).

In the loss, Bryant’s Cameron Ziegler (Adrln All American, West Coast Starz) scored his first collegiate goal and Kyle Mummau (Adrln All American, Tropics, West Coast Starz) continued to be the anchor of the Bryant defense.

Stony Brook made a statement in their opener with a decisive victory, with Challen Rodgers (Adrln All American, West Coast Starz) leading the way with a game high (4, 2). He was named America East Player of the Week. In the loss Andrew Gresham (Adrln All American) recorded his first goal of his career.

Hopkins had an emotional win in their first contet after the passing of teammate Jeremy Huber (West Coast Starz, Adrln All American, Tropics). Keiran Eissler (West Coast Starz, Adrln All American, Tropics) played himself a great game form his first midfield spot and Wilkins Dislike (Adrln All American) had a big goal during the Hopkins run. In the loss for UMBC, Steve Larson (Adrln All American, Tropics) went 5-12 at the face-off X.

The Naval Academy jumped out to an impressive win this wknd with freshman Taylor Esoldi (Adrln All American, Tropics, West Coast Starz) and Chris Hill making big plays in their debut.

This coming weekend will mark the start of the season for the entire Division I college lacrosse community and with so many games televised and live streamed, we hope that all of our western lacrosse players will be spending their free time watching games and learning form the best in the country (many of which walked in their same shoes not too long ago!)
