At 3:47 Shamel Bratton tied the game up for Maverik United with an unassisted goal, getting inside on Team STX’s defense. Starting the third quarter man-up, Team STX’s Peter Baum would make Maverik United pay for the penalty, firing a lefty shot from up top that got past Rodriquez low and away and put Team STX up 6-4. Adrenaline Athlete Whit McCarthy scored his second goal of the day at 13: 43 with a time and room bomb off a pass from Corp. This goal brought Maverik United within one. Once again, however, his former teammate at Salisbury, Erik Krum, would respond with a big goal for Maverik United to cut the lead to one (10-9 Team STX ahead). Team STX’s goalie, Matt Russell, stood on his head in the 4th quarter with a couple point blank saves to hang on to the lead for Team STX. Davy Emala would score with 6:52 left in the game to put STX back up by two goals, and Bradman gave Team STX their biggest lead of the game at 5:32 when he caught a pass from teammate Xander Ritz and slung it into the back of the net to put STX up 12-9. The three goal lead proved to be too much as Team STX would hang on to win 12-10.
Sam Bradman was awarded MVP of the game with his five goals and one assist. Matt Russell played an instrumental role in protecting Team STX’s lead, making 16 saves despite breaking his thumb mid game. Johny Rodriguez had a great showing as well with 17 saves.
